What size tank should a beginner start with?
Bigger is easier. A 50 to 100 litre tank holds its temperature and water chemistry far more steadily than a small bowl, which makes it more forgiving while you learn. Nano tanks look great but need more frequent attention.
How do I choose the right filter for my tank?
Aim for a filter that turns over the full tank volume four to six times an hour. Internal filters suit tanks up to around 100 litres; external canister filters are quieter, hold more media and are the better choice for larger or heavily stocked tanks.
How often should I change the water?
A 20 to 30 percent water change every week keeps nitrates low and fish healthy. Always treat tap water with a dechlorinator before it goes into the tank, and match the temperature as closely as you can.
Do you sell fish tanks yourselves?
We do not sell directly. Every product we recommend links to Amazon, which delivers to every county in Ireland, and we flag any item that ships from the UK so you can check customs charges before you buy.
Can I keep fish in a bowl?
A bowl with no filter or heater is a poor home for almost any fish, including goldfish. A small filtered tank of 20 litres or more is a far kinder and easier option, and it costs very little more.
